  • What can cause my car to shake when pressing on the brakes?

The most common reason for a brake pulse would be a warped rotor. After a long period of time constant hot and cold weather causes metal to deform. Driving over a puddle when your rotors are extremly hot will cause the metal to warp. The warping can be microscopic but when a wheel is spinning at hundreds of revoutions a minute contraction of the brake pads will cause pads to hop also known as a brake pulse. Hense the shaking when applying your brakes.

  • Why do I hear a loud hum or grinding noise when driving?

There is somtimes a way to get and idea of what it can be. If the noise stops when turning left or right chances are its a bad wheel bearing. A wheel bearing is a major component of your wheel assembly. The hub is what holds the wheel to the vehicle by the lugs. Malfunction of this part can cause serious injury to you or others and is recommended to be replaced as soon as possible. Other reasons can be a loose wheel, worn out pads or rotors or even something rubbing on your wheel.

  • Why do I hear a clunking noise when driving?

A clunking noise while driving can be a number of things. A bad control arm, bad tie-rods, bad ball joints, bad wheel bearings, bad struts, bad sway bar links, a loose wheel, and even a bad steering knuckle. Any unfamiliar noise is always a sign that something is not right and should be inspected by a professional as soon as possible.

  • Why is my car overheating?

A vehicle overheats when coolant is not cycling from the radiator and back into the engine. There could be a number of reasons for this, a leak somewhere in the cooling system, a bad water pump, a bad radiator, a bad themostat. A leak can form anywhere, the radiator, water pump, heater-core, an even a hose. If your vehicle is overheating make sure to pull over and turn your engine off immediately. With the engine off turn the key to the power on or on "accessory" and turn on your heat to the max setting. This will help in cooling down the engine. Continuing to drive with a engine thats overheating can cause permanent damage to your engine.

  • When should I change my oil?

In older vehicles using conventional oil it is recommended to change every 3000 miles. If using a synthetic oil then it is recommended to be changed every 5000-6000 miles.

In newer vehicles that are much more efficient you may get a little more time in between changes. For newer vehicles running conventional oil it is recommended to change your oil at 3000-5000 miles. For synthetic oil it is recommended to  change anywhere from 6000-10000 miles.

It is very important to check your oil levels in between changes, before long trips, and after long trips.
